Section classIII-2

Overview

Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Philadelphia' is a sport of *H.* 'Popcorn' that produces a medium-sized mound of intensely blue-green foliage. Its broadly ovate, cupped leaves are 15.2 cm (6 in) long and wide, with corrugated surfaces that are slightly shiny above and dull beneath.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump suited to partial or dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its medium stature and bold blue-green leaves make it effective as a groundcover or as an accent among ferns and shade-tolerant perennials. The cupped, corrugated foliage provides textural contrast when planted near finer-leaved plants such as *Heuchera* or *Carex*.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
