Overview
Registered in 2013, 'Petticoat Junction' is a large hosta cultivar originating from a complex cross involving *H. nigrescens* and seedlings of 'Elvis Lives' and 'Salute'. The cultivar is distinguished by its broadly ovate, medium blue-green leaves with heavy rippling to serrated margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and a distinctive twisted tip with a delicate ruffle along the entire border.
In the Garden
'Petticoat Junction' forms a mound-like clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its blue-green foliage and wavy margins are most pronounced. The substantial leaf size and textured form make it suitable as a specimen plant or for mid-border placement in shade gardens, paired with ferns or fine-textured groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While not especially susceptible, standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
