Overview
Registered in 2014, *Hosta* 'Pete's Multi Color' is a giant, fertile streaked cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Justice' (pod parent) and a streaked form of *H.* 'Gray Cole' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the dark green leaf blade overlaid with golden yellow streaks, set against a gold margin, a pattern that remains stable across divisions.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 50 inches (127.0 cm) and height of 27.125 inches (68.9 cm), this cultivar forms a substantial mound and is best sited in partial to dappled shade, where its streaked foliage is most pronounced. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 14.375 inches (36.5 cm) long by 10.125 inches (25.7 cm) wide, have a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside, with flat margins and a cordate base. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or accent in woodland borders and shade gardens, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
