Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Paul's Glory' registered by Peter Ruh in 2003, 'Peter Ruh' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow margins. The broadly ovate, moderately corrugated foliage exhibits a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and measures 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 10 to 12 vein pairs and margins approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Peter Ruh' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins maintain their brightness without scorching. The substantial leaf size and contrasting variegation make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens, paired with finer-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in spring when leaves are expanding. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Peter Ruh' is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
