Overview
Registered in 2012 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Pert' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its lance-shaped, blue-green leaves with bright yellow margins and a semi-upright growth habit. The foliage measures 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) long by 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, with six to eight vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a very slight glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
Reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, 'Pert' forms a compact, semi-upright clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. Its moderate growth rate and small stature make it an effective edging plant or accent among other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. The yellow-margined leaves hold best color with morning sun and afternoon shade, though typical hosta-growing conditions with dappled light are adequate.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain even soil moisture; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
