Overview
Registered in 1994, *Hosta* 'Peppermint Ice' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'William Lachman'* (pod parent) and *H. montana* (pollen parent). The plant is visually defined by its green leaves with creamy white margins, a shiny upper surface, and burgundy-blushed cream scapes.
In the Garden
'Peppermint Ice' reaches a mature spread of 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), with a semi-upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade and is well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its compact size. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring or barriers.
