Year registered1990
Section classIV-6a

Overview

Registered in 1990, this small hosta cultivar originated from a cross between *H. 'Louisa'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Subcrocea'* (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the creamy greenish-white leaf margins that contrast with the dark green leaf centers, with undulating margins adding textural interest.

In the Garden

Reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and spreading to 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, 'PeeDee Spring Fever' is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain crisp without scorching, and pairs effectively with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its compact size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
