Overview
Registered in 2007, this large blue-green cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorset Blue' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Dorset Flair' (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, nearly round leaves that are deeply cupped and deeply corrugated, with smooth margins and a pronounced glaucous bloom on the undersides. The leaf surface exhibits a unique pebbled texture that gives the plant its name.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), this mound-forming hosta is best suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large, heavily textured leaves provide strong contrast when paired with fine-textured perennials such as ferns or Japanese forest grass. The slow growth rate means it will require several seasons to reach full size.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs and snails, though monitoring is still recommended in damp conditions.
