Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, 'Pearl Buttons' is a miniature hosta of unknown parentage, distinguished by its small, blue-green leaves with medium green margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) long and 1.38 inches (3.5 cm) wide, have a dull upper surface and a shiny, glaucous underside, with cordate to rounded bases and four vein pairs.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, compact mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its miniature size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its blue-green foliage and green margins can be appreciated at close range. It pairs well with other small perennials such as creeping Jenny or miniature ferns, and performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pearl Buttons' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
