Overview

Registered in 2005 by W. Lefever, this medium-sized hosta is a seedling of *Hosta* 'Riptide' with unknown pollen parent. 'Peacock Strut' is distinguished by its upright, blue-green foliage with deeply folded, lightly wavy leaf margins, purple petioles that stipple upward into the leaf blade, and a pronounced glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.

In the Garden

'Peacock Strut' forms a dense, upright clump reaching 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaves and purple petioles provide contrast against green or gold-foliaged companions such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Carex*. The 32- to 37-inch (81.3–94.0 cm) purple scapes with white wax bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most blue-leaved hostas, the glaucous bloom is susceptible to marking from overhead watering or heavy rain; standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for typical hosta-growing zones.
