Overview

Registered in 2009, 'Peacock Feathers' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar originating from a cross between *Hosta* 'Gold Regal' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Blue Vision' (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its broadly ovate, blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, moderate corrugation, and a notable tendency to produce flowers with multiple petals—typically 7 to 15 per bloom, accompanied by a corresponding number of anthers and occasionally multiple ovaries.

In the Garden

'Peacock Feathers' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous foliage retains its color. The plant's medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its unusual multi-petaled flowers add interest in late summer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable, as the foliage is susceptible to damage from both pests.
