Overview

Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Peace Pipe' is a small cultivar of unknown parentage, notable for its sharply contrasting foliage: dark green, slightly rippled margins frame a creamy white center that does not fade to green as the season progresses. The leaves are ovate with rounded bases, moderately cupped and lightly twisted, with a very shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Peace Pipe' reaches a mature size of 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It is suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container culture, and pairs well with other small hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns and heucheras. The scapes, reaching 14 to 18 inches (35.6 to 45.7 cm), bear splashed flowers typical of the genus.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
