Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Sugar Snap' registered in 2016, 'Pea Pod' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, dark green leaves with flat margins, heavy corrugation, and pronounced cupping. The foliage is very shiny on both surfaces, and the plant produces fragrant flowers on dark green scapes.

In the Garden

'Pea Pod' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its rapid growth rate allows it to fill space quickly. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and shade-tolerant grasses. The large, puckered leaves provide strong textural contrast against finer-foliaged perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, though the thick, corrugated leaves may offer some resistance to minor pest damage.
