Overview
Registered in 2005 by B. Kuk, this small hosta cultivar results from a cross between *H. pachyscapa* and *H.* 'Sea Octopus'. It is visually distinctive for its lance-shaped, variegated leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins and a lightly twisted, moderately wavy form, combined with dark maroon scapes and dark purple flowers.
In the Garden
'Passionate Purple' forms a mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its small size makes it suitable for containers, rock gardens, or front-of-border placements. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and shade-tolerant groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
