Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Passionate Pink' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Strawberry Surprise' (pod parent) and a seedling of *H.* 'Sun Power' (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves with green centers and golden yellow, slightly rippled margins, combined with scapes bearing bracts heavily blushed pink and flowers with a red-lavender base.
In the Garden
'Passionate Pink' forms a flared mound 22 inches (55.9 cm) tall and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to light shade, typical for hostas, and its large, rugose foliage provides strong textural contrast alongside finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the large, corrugated leaves may be attractive to both.
