Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Catherine', 'Party Popper' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins and a heavily flamed, variegated center. The leaf blade is ovate with a rounded base, slightly wavy margins, and a slightly shiny upper surface, bearing eight pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Party Popper' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 16 inches (39.9 cm) and a height of about 10 inches (24.9 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It is noted for both slug and sun resistance, making it suitable for sites that receive more light than typical hosta positions, though it performs best in partial shade. Its small stature and compact form make it an excellent choice for container culture, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border, where its blue scapes and distinctive leaf pattern provide contrast against darker foliage or fine-textured groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While noted as slug resistant, standard hosta care practices—such as keeping the crown dry and removing damaged foliage—are recommended to maintain plant health in typical hosta-growing zones.
