Overview

Registered in 2004 by N. Nelson as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Edger', 'Partridge Gold' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with gold margins and a notable pattern of dark blue-green spots and slight mottling across the leaf surface. The broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves measure 4 inches (10.2 cm) long by 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) wide, with 8 vein pairs, flat margins, and a dull texture on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Partridge Gold' reaches a mature diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 7.2 inches (18.3 cm), forming a compact, fast-growing clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials complement its low, mounding habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Partridge Gold' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
