Overview
Registered in 2010, 'Parthenon' is a medium-sized sport notable for its unusual leaf coloration: white centers framed by wide, light green margins, with white speckling throughout. The leaves are ovate with rounded bases, moderately wavy, and measure 7.75 inches (19.7 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, bearing 10 to 11 vein pairs. The upper surface is slightly shiny, while the underside is very shiny.
In the Garden
'Parthenon' forms a mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas with significant white leaf tissue. The plant's broad, light-catching foliage makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Parthenon' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
