Overview

Registered in 2000 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Samurai', 'Papa's Gold' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers with golden yellow margins. The leaves bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and exhibit slightly rippled margins with a cordate base.

In the Garden

'Papa's Gold' reaches a mature height of 13 inches (33.0 cm) and spreads to 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds. The chartreuse scapes, rising 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm), produce flowers that complement the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Papa's Gold' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
