Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Drop' registered in 1999, 'Panache' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad gold margins. The leaf blade is dull on both surfaces, with a cordate base and seven vein pairs, while the margin is slightly rippled and measures approximately 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Panache' reaches a mature height of 4 inches (10.2 cm) and spreads to 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, forming a compact, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. Companion plants such as small ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars with contrasting foliage colors complement its gold-margined leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Panache' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management measures should be taken in areas where these pests are prevalent.
