Overview
Registered in 2014 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Flemish Master', 'Paint Master' is a large cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with greenish-white streaked margins and a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The broadly ovate, moderately corrugated foliage reaches 28.3 cm in length and 20.6 cm in width, with 9 to 11 vein pairs and flat margins, while the scape extends 68.9 to 86.4 cm high and is similarly blue-green with greenish-white streaking.
In the Garden
'Paint Master' forms a mound-like clump 83.5 cm in diameter and 46.4 cm tall, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas. Its large, streaked leaves provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and its fertile flowers can be used for breeding. The cultivar's substantial size precludes container cultivation except in very large pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the glaucous foliage.
