Overview
Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the Benson-Hostas Horticultural Society (BHHS), 'Pagoda' is a medium-sized hosta derived from the *Hosta* Tardiana Group. Its most distinctive feature is its blue-green foliage, which provides a cool, muted tone in the garden.
In the Garden
'Pagoda' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and reaches a mature size of approximately 12 to 18 inches in height and spread. Its medium stature makes it suitable for mid-border placement, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not typically recommended for containers due to its medium size, but larger pots may accommodate it.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pagoda' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for pests and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
