Overview
Registered in 2004, 'Pacifica' is a giant blue-green hosta of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Ming Dynasty' as its pod parent. Its most distinctive features are its very large, nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves with a dull, blue-green surface and flat margins, forming a slow-growing, mound-like clump.
In the Garden
'Pacifica' is best suited for partial to full shade, where its substantial foliage can develop its characteristic blue-green coloration. With a mature diameter of 59 inches (149.9 cm) and height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), it requires ample space and makes a bold specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and mixed borders. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not suitable for containers due to its giant size.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Pacifica' shows typical hosta resistance to deer, it may be susceptible to slug damage, particularly on its lightly cupped leaves; monitor and manage slugs as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
