Overview
Registered in 1982 by R. Savory, *Hosta* 'Marquis' is a small variegated cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. nakaiana*. Its leaves are distinguished by medium dark green margins surrounding a lighter center, with six pairs of veins per leaf.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height, making them suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. They perform best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and combine well with small ferns, heucheras, or other low-growing shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage in susceptible gardens; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
