Overview

Registered in 1995 by originator P. Banyai and registrant D. Bachik, 'Julie Ann' is a giant blue-green hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are its very large, cordate leaves with slightly rippled margins and dull upper surfaces, combined with a substantial mature spread of over five feet.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 66 inches (167.6 cm) and a height of 29 inches (73.7 cm), with a semi-upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones, preferring partial to full shade. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or for filling large spaces in woodland gardens, where it pairs well with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate deterrents or barriers.
