Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Little Aurora', 'Jules' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaf centers bordered by broad, golden yellow margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring approximately 4.7 inches long and 3.9 inches wide, with 9 to 11 pairs of veins; the margins are flat and 0.8 inches wide.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 17.7 inches and height of 5.9 inches, 'Jules' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it an effective edging plant or groundcover in small spaces. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials that complement its gold-margined foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Jules' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
