Overview
Registered in 2004, 'Judy Rocco' is a small hosta cultivar derived from a complex hybrid lineage: its pod parent is an F-1 seedling of *Hosta* 'Spitzer' × *H. pycnophylla*, and its pollen parent is *H. longipes* var. *hypoglauca*. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with a dull upper surface and glaucous bloom beneath, combined with purple scapes and red petioles that become visible as the upright clump matures.
In the Garden
'Judy Rocco' forms an upright clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its small size and upright habit make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials in partial to full shade.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing; monitor and manage accordingly.
