Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Johnny Oh' is a sport of *Hosta* 'June Bug' that produces a small, mound-shaped clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its greenish-yellow leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins, a color combination that provides good contrast and undergoes an appealing seasonal change.

In the Garden

'Johnny Oh' tolerates both sun and shade, making it adaptable to a range of garden positions from partial shade to sites with more direct light. Its compact size suits placement in the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant, and it performs well in containers. The medium-fast growth rate allows it to fill space within two to three seasons, and it pairs effectively with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in sunnier positions, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
