Overview

Registered in 1986 by V. Grapes and the American Hosta Society, this small cultivar bears variegated leaves with dark green margins and glossy surfaces. The parentage is unknown, and the plant forms a compact mound reaching 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height and 39 inches (99.1 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

Hosta 'Jingle Bells' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it forms a low, spreading clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation given its small size. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its glossy, dark-margined foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
