Overview
Registered in 2001, this giant hosta cultivar was developed from the pod parent *Hosta* 'Treasure' with an unknown pollen parent. 'Jay B. Abendroth' is visually distinctive for its large, dome-shaped clump of medium blue-green, nearly round leaves with slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and light corrugation.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), this fast-growing mound-forming cultivar is best suited as a specimen or accent in partial to full shade. Its substantial blue-green foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The large leaf size and dense habit make it unsuitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
