Overview

Registered in 1996, *Hosta* 'Jackpot' is a giant hybrid resulting from a cross between *H.* 'White Vision' (pod parent) and *H. montana macrophylla* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its large, dull green leaves with yellow-gold, slightly rippled margins and gold scapes.

In the Garden

'Jackpot' forms a substantial mound, reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its large, broad leaves (14 inches long by 10 inches wide, with 16 vein pairs and cordate bases) provide bold texture in woodland gardens or as a specimen in mixed borders. The gold scapes, rising 35 to 38 inches (88.9 to 96.5 cm) tall, carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer. This giant cultivar is well suited for the back of a shade border or as a focal point in a large container.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Jackpot' is susceptible to slug damage on its large leaves and may require protection from deer in typical hosta-growing zones.
