Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, 'Iwa Soules' is a medium-sized variegated hosta derived from a pod parent of *Hosta longipes* form. Its visual distinction lies in the ovate, lightly corrugated leaves with green, slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a slightly shiny underside.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height and 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While slugs and deer may occasionally feed on the foliage, the lightly corrugated leaf texture offers some resistance compared to smoother-leaved cultivars.
