Overview
Registered in 1996 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Sagae', 'Ivory Tower' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its large, cordate leaves with green centers and heavy, rippled yellow-gold margins. The leaf surfaces are dull on both top and bottom, and the plant produces green scapes 42 to 44 inches (106.7–111.8 cm) tall.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 66 inches (167.6 cm) and height of 34 inches (86.4 cm), 'Ivory Tower' forms a substantial, upright clump at a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast its broad foliage. Its giant size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
