Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Ivory' registered in 2014, 'Ivory Queen' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its reverse coloration of broad, medium blue-green margins surrounding creamy white leaf centers. The thick, broadly ovate leaves exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 11 to 12 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Ivory Queen' forms a mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white leaf centers remain most stable; in hot summer conditions, immature plants may develop fogging in the centers, though this effect diminishes in mature specimens or cooler climates. The creamy white scapes, 18 to 22 inches (45.7 to 55.9 cm) tall, carry pale flowers in midsummer. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the thick leaf texture may offer some resistance.
