Overview
Registered in 2004 with the American Hosta Society, 'It Rocks' is a giant-sized cultivar notable for its deeply corrugated, heavily substanced dark green leaves with white margins. The broadly ovate leaves, reaching 12.75 inches long and 10 inches wide, feature 14 prominent vein pairs underneath and slightly rippled white margins ranging from 0.25 to 1.5 inches wide. The plant was derived from *Hosta* 'Galaxy' as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent.
In the Garden
'It Rocks' forms a substantial upright clump reaching 26 inches in height and 30 inches in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its large, corrugated foliage provides strong textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The tall scapes, reaching 37 to 41 inches, bear green flowers that rise well above the foliage mound.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate deterrents or barriers.
