Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, 'Iszat U Doc' is a small hosta derived from the pod parent *Hosta* 'Saishu Jima' with an unknown pollen parent. The cultivar is distinguished by its lanceolate blue-green leaves with white margins, heavily rippled green edges, and a shiny white glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Iszat U Doc' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage with white margins provides contrast when paired with ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas. The 5-inch (12.7 cm) leaves with four vein pairs and tapered bases create a refined texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the small, lanceolate leaves of this cultivar may be less appealing to slugs than broader-leaved varieties.
