Overview

Registered in 1981 by V. Sellers, 'Iron Gate Glamour' is a large hosta cultivar derived from a hybrid of *Hosta plantaginea*. It is visually distinctive for its deep green leaves mottled with white, bordered by white margins, and its tall scapes bearing pale flowers.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with leaf blades 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its substantial foliage makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size limits its use in containers, though it may be grown in very large pots.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
