Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon' registered in 2000, 'Iowa Moon' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by pale yellow leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blade is cordate at the base, dull on both surfaces, and bears ten pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Iowa Moon' forms a moderate-growing mound reaching 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to light shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its medium stature allows pairing with ferns, heucheras, or smaller shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in full sun exposure where leaf scorch may occur. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and use barriers or controls as needed.
