Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Instant Gratification' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Flambouyant'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Blue Whirls'* (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is a tricolor leaf pattern: a creamy white center occupies roughly one-third of the blade, bordered by a very light green midzone, which transitions to a medium green margin; the entire leaf is slightly folded, with some folding more pronounced toward the midrib.
In the Garden
'Instant Gratification' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its small stature. Its muted, blended leaf colors pair effectively with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage can occur; monitor foliage regularly and take protective measures if needed.
