Overview

Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Infatuation' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between Solberg 49 Best sdlg. and *H.* 'Red October'. Its most distinctive visual features are intensely blue-green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and cranberry-red petioles that extend into the leaf blade.

In the Garden

'Infatuation' forms an upright clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is best preserved. The pointed, waxy leaves contrast well with fine-textured companions such as ferns or heucheras, and the red petioles provide subtle color interest at ground level.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. The thick, waxy leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures are recommended in damp conditions. Deer may browse young foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
