Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Indianapolis Blue' is a selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Quilted Skies' that forms a large, uniform mound of intensely blue-green foliage. The cultivar is distinguished by its nearly round, heart-shaped leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, flat margins, and light corrugation.
In the Garden
'Indianapolis Blue' reaches a mature spread of 42 inches (107 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, blue-green leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant is not suited for container cultivation due to its substantial size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves show moderate resistance to slug damage, though monitoring is recommended in damp conditions. Typical hosta-growing zones apply.
