Overview
Registered in 1991 by L. Simpers and P. Ruh, this large cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta montana* (pod parent) and *H. 'Ibaraki-K'* (pollen parent). Its variegated foliage is characterized by green leaves with small undulating margins, producing a substantial clump that reaches 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, where its leaf coloration remains most stable. At maturity, it forms a broad, mounded specimen suitable for mid-border placement or as a focal point in shaded beds. Its large size pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement rather than compete with its substantial foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the thick, undulating leaf margins may offer slightly more resilience than thin-leaved cultivars; monitoring for slug damage in damp conditions is advisable.
