Overview

Registered in 2010 as a seedling of *Hosta* 'Liberty' with unknown pollen parent, 'Green Pastures' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its heavy-substance leaves with light green margins and darker centers. The leaf blades reach 10 inches (25.4 cm) in length and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in width, with eight to nine pairs of veins.

'Green Pastures' forms a moderate-growing mound 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 24 to 26 inches (61.0 to 66.0 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial shade with consistent moisture, typical of most variegated hostas, and its substantial leaves hold up well in the landscape. This cultivar's large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns and other woodland perennials.

Provide regular water during dry periods to maintain leaf substance and prevent edge burn. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges; deer and slugs may damage foliage in some settings.
