Van Eechaute as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Essence of Summer' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, moderately corrugated leaves with medium green, flat margins. The foliage is dull on both surfaces, and the plant is believed by its registrant to be tetraploid.
