Overview

Registered in 2000 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Norwalk Chartreuse', 'Zowie' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its golden yellow leaves with narrow, pure white margins. The leaves measure 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with six vein pairs and a rounded base, exhibiting slight shine on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Zowie' forms a compact, rhizomatous clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the golden yellow leaf centers hold their color without scorching. Its small stature makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and it pairs well with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Zowie' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
