Overview
Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, 'Zest of Lemon' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins. The broadly ovate, cordate-based foliage features slightly rippled, light greenish-golden yellow margins, with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright to mound-like clump reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate deterrents or barriers.
