Year registered1998
Section classI-5a

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' registered in 1998, 'Zebson' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its large, cordate leaves with green centers and greenish-yellow to golden-yellow margins. The leaves measure up to 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 11 inches (27.9 cm) wide, with 15 vein pairs, flat margins, and a slightly shiny upper surface contrasting with a dull underside.

In the Garden

'Zebson' forms a mound-like clump reaching 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where the gold margins are most pronounced. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop for smaller perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Zebson' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection from deer in areas where they are prevalent.
