Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Yuma' is a large, mound-forming cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Something Old' and *H.* 'Woodland Blue'. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, intensely corrugated blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and uniform pebbling and puckering across the blade.
In the Garden
'Yuma' forms a dense mound 22 inches (55.9 cm) tall and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or for the middle to back of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color is most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large, textured leaves provide contrast against finer-textured groundcovers such as *Lamium* or *Pulmonaria*.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are recommended, as the large, lush leaves are attractive to both pests.
