Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Yosemite Valley' is a giant hybrid resulting from a cross between (*H. 'Elatior'* × *H. 'High Noon'*) and *H. 'Niagara Falls'*. It is visually distinctive for its very large, ovate leaves with cordate bases, which are green with heavily rippled gold margins and a very shiny upper surface, combined with an upright, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

With a mature diameter of 50 inches (127 cm) and height of 33 inches (83.8 cm), this fast-growing giant is best suited for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of a border where its substantial foliage can be appreciated. It performs well in typical hosta-growing zones, preferring partial to full shade. Its large, shiny leaves and upright form make it a strong structural element in shade gardens, though its size limits container suitability.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, to support its rapid growth and large leaves. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage can occur and may require management.
