Overview
Registered in 2007 as a sport of unknown origin, 'Yikes Stripes' is a small hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins and notably white veins. The leaf surface is very shiny on top and dull underneath, with slightly rippled margins and an ovate shape with a rounded base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a medium to fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it suitable for container cultivation or placement in the front of borders. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small grasses complement its blue-green and white coloration.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Yikes Stripes' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
